Empty Nest, New Me: Rediscovering Myself. Wow, has time ever flown by? It feels like just yesterday I was bouncing on a yoga ball with my screaming newborn daughter in my arms. Now, she’s eighteen, a whole new world waiting for her – and a bittersweet cocktail of emotions brewing in me! Where will she go? Who will she meet? What incredible things will she accomplish? Excitement bubbles alongside a touch of worry, but mostly, I’m bursting with pride for the young woman she’s become.
My son recently turned thirteen, a milestone marked not just by a birthday cake but by a hilarious exchange about bed configurations (new beds vs. hand-me-downs – gotta love sibling rivalry!). I vividly remember his transition from cot to a “grown-up” cabin bed, his tiny legs pumping with glee as he scaled those two small steps. Fast forward to today, and bedtime stories and hand-holding are a thing of the past. Football dominates his world, along with online gaming with his buddies and a blossoming sense of personal style.
The years have been a whirlwind of memories – joyful moments, messy experiences, late nights fueled by worry and love, tearful goodbyes, and countless bursts of laughter. There were disagreements, of course, the inevitable growing pains of parenthood, but every single one of them shaped who we are today.
And now, my role as a mama is gracefully evolving. The days of picture books, bath time battles, and epic Lego construction projects are (mostly) behind me. But instead of feeling lost, I see an exciting opportunity – a chance to rediscover myself at 48.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not about to mope around the house, mourning my “needed” status. My love and support are a constant, but it’s time to carve out some space for my own passions.
This next chapter is all about self-discovery, about reigniting the spark within.
I recently completed a course in gut health, a topic that’s always fascinated me, especially with my family’s unique needs. And guess what? I’m now a certified gut health coach – watch this space! I’ve also partnered with a fantastic Norwegian company called Eqology, promoting a healthy lifestyle through their products.
But that’s not all! I’m diving headfirst into the world of finance, learning the ins and outs of investing with a platform designed specifically for women, FemaleInvest. It’s time to break down those financial barriers and empower myself (and hopefully others!)
The digital world beckons too. Video editing, social media strategy, SEO – the alphabet soup of online success is calling my name. Time to learn those all-important keywords and conquer the cookie monster (metaphorically speaking, of course).
Oh, and did I mention the sea swimming? Living by the coast has its perks, and I’m fully embracing them with a calendar chock-full of swims – the Agatha Christie, Burgh Island, Bantham Swoosh, maybe even the Dart 5k! Plus, there’s always the pool for year-round aquatic adventures.
Strength training? Absolutely! Midlife women deserve to feel strong and empowered, and my local gym is my happy place.
Speaking of happy places, my husband might need to schedule an appointment with my ever-expanding calendar! We’re making a conscious effort to reconnect, with comedy club outings (tickets for next month’s show are a must!)
And finally, I’m embracing a more natural approach to skincare. High street products, move over! Castor oil, banana peels, and aloe Vera gel, hello! Here’s to a healthy glow (and a lighter wallet). watch out for recipes and videos.
This new chapter is brimming with possibilities, a chance to write the next part of my story. It’s a story filled with self-discovery, exploration, and maybe even a little adventure. So, stay tuned – it’s going to be a wild ride!
